These distinguished members were nominated for their exemplary research as well as outstanding service to the community. New Board of Trustee Board Members Named
March 14, 2013 - We are pleased to announce the following individuals have accepted appointments to ICERM's Board of Trustees (BOT):
Yvon Maday, Université Pierre et Marie Curie
Bin Yu, University of California at Berkeley
ICERM's Board of Trustees oversees all institute activities. This includes being responsible for reviewing the budget for the coming year, approving the appointment of the Director, and taking a leadership role in fundraising and public awareness. The Board of Trustees has a face-to-face meeting at ICERM for one day each year (usually in late spring), and ad hoc meetings as needed.
We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank three founding members who are stepping down from the Board of Trustees this spring: Rick David McLaughlin and David Mumford.
ICERM Director Discusses STEM Education
March 13, 2013 - Jill Pipher, director of ICERM, took part in a panel of distinguished Rhode Islanders to discuss the importance of STEM education and skills in professional development. Science Behind Predictive Policing
March 12, 2013 - The Los Angeles Police Department is using a new tactic in their fight against crime called "predictive policing." It's a computer program that was originally developed by a team at UCLA, including mathematician (and ICERM Scientific Advisory Board Chair) Andrea Bertozzi and anthropologist Jeff Brantingham. ICERM Board Member Encourages Girls Towards STEM Careers
March 4, 2013 - Thirty Loudoun County, Virginia high school girls who have a knack for science were invited to visit with one of the most respected scientists in the field of theoretical computer science and physics, Jennifer Chayes. In addition to being the managing director of Microsoft Research New England and Microsoft Research New York City, Chayes is a founding member of ICERM's Board of Trustees.
