Housing Opportunities

This page is for workshop participants who stay at ICERM just for the duration of a workshop. For each workshop, ICERM has blocked rooms at a local hotel. In order to retain our special room rate, we encourage you to use our designated hotel. Maps with the location of ICERM and all hotels indicated can be found on the Transportation and directions webpage.

Short- and Long-Term Visitors

If you plan to come to ICERM as a short- or long-term visitor,

  • short term: more than a week and less than 30 days,
  • long term: more than 30 days,

then our event staff will assist you in securing housing for the length of your stay. Please make your housing request by sending an email to the Program Manager at info@icerm.brown.edu and indicate the following:

  • Number of days housing is needed (less than 30 days, more than 30 days, 2-5 months, 6-9 months, 10-12 months).
  • Style of housing and number of bedrooms preferred (hotel, room for rent, studio, apartment, furnished or unfurnished).
  • Any other details (e.g., children who need daycare or to be enrolled in school, pets, parking needs, etc.).

ICERM provides housing listings as a courtesy to its visitors but cannot recommend or endorse any particular one. Long term participants are advised to check for availability and to determine to their own satisfaction the suitability of the rental unit.

Invited visitors will be reimbursed up to the amount agreed upon in your invitation letter toward local housing (lodging receipts are required). If you stay less than the agreed upon days, the amount reimbursed to you will be prorated based on the number of days you were in residence at ICERM.

If you will be away from ICERM for more than two days during your visit, please send e-mail to info@icerm.brown.edu, as this helps us to direct phone calls, take care of mail that may accumulate, etc.

Being in the heart of downtown Providence, the hotel is within a 5 minute walk to ICERM and all the many acclaimed area restaurants, shops, and attractions. In 2012, the Hampton Inn & Suites was awarded the Certificate of Excellence Award from TripAdvisor.

Alternative hotels

The following hotels may have availability if you are unable to reserve a room at our designated hotel during a workshop, or if you are a long term program participant but you are in-residence for a short period. For those with ICERM funding (you would have received an invitation letter outlining the funding offer), please note that ICERM will reimburse you at a rate of $123.17 (tax included) per night for a maximum of 6 nights (unless noted otherwise in your invitation letter). Alternate hotel rates may change seasonally and/or without our knowledge.
