Since many computational tools and mathematical models developed for one disease can be tailored and applied to others, particularly in the field of precision medicine, this workshop provides a unique opportunity to foster collaboration between researchers focused on two distinct sets of diseases: neurological disorders and cancer. Both diseases involve exploring shared mechanisms, such as genetic mutations, protein misfolding, and altered cellular metabolism. Both conditions also involve chronic inflammation, immune response alterations, and dysregulated cell cycle and apoptosis pathways. These overlaps suggest potential for shared therapeutic strategies and drug repurposing, offering new avenues for treatment in both fields. By encouraging cross-disciplinary dialogue and the exchange of methodologies, we aim to facilitate the adoption of innovative approaches across disease areas, enhancing both fields.

One of our key goals is to encourage mathematicians and computational scientists to engage in biological and medical research. By highlighting successful applications of mathematical tools in biology, such as machine learning for genomic analysis or differential equation models for disease progression, we aim to illustrate the exciting potential for cross-disciplinary innovation. Furthermore, the workshop will include sessions that explore emerging computational methods and how they can be applied to pressing challenges in both cancer and neurological disorders.
