Congratulations to 2015 Summer@ICERM students

January 11, 2016 - January 22, 2016 - Chang He and Frank Yang were recognized at the 2016 Joint Mathematics Meeting with the "Outstanding Presentation" Award for their poster based on research conducted during Summer@ICERM 2015. Their winning poster, "Mixing Time in Robotic Explorations" (link to PDF of poster I will email) came about under the direction of Professor Yuliy Baryshnikov and Professor Maxim Arnold, the faculty organizers for ICERM's summer undergraduate research program.

$17.5M NSF grant continues ICERM for five years

September 22, 2015 - ICERM is pleased to announce that its $17.5M NSF grant has been renewed for the next five years! "ICERM's initial challenge lay in demonstrating, through its programs and activities, that its mission was both compelling and broad in scope," said Jill Pipher, ICERM's founding director. "I think we have more than met that challenge with a wide variety of cutting-edge research programs, and we're very pleased that NSF has validated our mission, our accomplishments, and our future vision with this continuing grant." September 18, 2015 - Quanta Magazine recently published "A Tricky Path to Quantum-Safe Encryption," an article featuring ICERM director Jill Pipher, associate director Jeff Hoffstein, and Brown faculty and ICERM program organizer, Joe Silverman.

ICERM Board Member Awarded as John von Neumann Lecturer

August 19, 2015 - ICERM Board of Trustees member Jennifer Chayes (Microsoft Research) was named by SIAM as the 2015 John von Neumann Lecturer. This prize, established in 1959, is awarded for outstanding and distinguished contributions to the field of applied mathematical sciences and for the effective communication of these ideas to the community. As the recipient of this prestigious prize, Dr. Chayes was invited to give a lecture at the annual ICIAM meeting. Her talk title was "Once upon a graph: How to get from now to then in massive networks".
