ICERM Education Advisory Board Member Receives BBVA Foundation Award
May 30, 2013 - ICERM Education Advisory Board member, David Mumford, Brown University, has been honored with the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Basic Sciences category. According to the jury's citation he was given this award for his work in pure mathematics, which has strongly influenced diverse fields of application ranging from data compression to pattern recognition. ICERM Director appointed as the Elisha Benjamin Andrews Professor of Mathematics
May 28, 2013 - This May, Brown University's Corporation approved 13 appointments of faculty to named chairs. Among them was ICERM Director Jill Pipher, whose appointment as the Elisha Benjamin Andrews Professor of Mathematics begins on July 1, 2013. Congratulations to Jill!
ICERM Participates in the Coalition for National Science Funding Exhibition on Capitol Hill
May 9, 2013 - ICERM was among the presenters at an exhibition sponsored by the Coalition for National Science Funding held on May 7 in Washington, D.C. The exhibition, titled "Investments in STEM Research and Education: Fueling American Innovation," aimed to illustrate the value of the federal investment in basic science research to Members of Congress and their staffs. Sastry Pantula, director of the Division of Mathematical Science of the National Science Foundation and Cora Marrett, director of the National Science Foundation stopped by the ICERM exhibit and met with ICERM's Deputy Director Jan Hesthaven and Assistant Director Ruth Crane.
